Where are you going? Would you like to know how to finally get there???
Every year it is the same old thing, set new goals, which are usually the same as the last several years. Sometimes we even increase our goals even though we still haven't hit the previous goals. At some point the definition of insanity should enter the equation (doing the same action and expecting a different result). Still, we continue year after year because that is what we think we should do, all the while never asking for clarification or direction. What the heck are we thinking?
The truth is we are not thinking at all, we are reacting to a paradigm that was planted in our mind at an early age and questioning the process never enters our mind. Statistics tell us that most people will have given up on their new goals by the 2nd week of the year, and only a small percentage make it past 45 days. I recently read a study stating that only 8% of those who set New Year’s goals actually achieve them. The number that was even more shocking was that only 45% of people even set a goal. Boy do I have good news for you that are in the 45%.
As a success coach one similarity that I see in my clients is that they all start off with the same question, "How do I do it?” My response is..."What is IT?" The "IT" is the answer! A captain of a ship never plots a course until they have decided and agreed on a specific destination. Even if there are storms that arise they can make the necessary changes to reroute and get back on course because the destination never changed.
If you truly want to breakthrough this coming year and begin to realize the results that will complete your goals, there are 3 things that are a must.
1) What do you want? Get a clear description and image of what it is that you truly want. Once you have established that, ask yourself two questions, "Am I able to achieve this, and am I willing to do what it takes to have this?"
2) Why do you want it? There must be an emotional attachment to the goal and it must be clearly noted. The purpose for this is than when adversity or challenges come, it will be the only thing that will keep you pursuing the goal with enthusiasm.
3) What are you willing to give to get it? The more intense the desire the more we are willing to sacrifice to obtain our goal. Sacrifice is a good thing, it is the act of releasing something of lesser value for something of greater value. I believe that you can have anything you want but you can't have everything you want, there must be a sacrifice and the sooner you decide what the proverbial line in the sand is, the sooner you can proceed without distraction.
