Are You Wishing or Wanting?

One of the most common mistakes i have seen people make when discussing their dreams and goals, is the difference between wishing and wanting. I will be the first to admit that there have been times that i have confused the two of them also. I believe that the confusion stems from our childhood and never transitioning our thought process into adulthood. The apostle Paul spoke of this saying "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." I believe that one of those "things" we should put away is an uproductive thought process.

Some of the definitions I like most regarding the word "want" are:

to be necessary or needed; to have a strong desire for; to demand the prescence of; to hunt or seek in order to apprehend.

As you seek to acheive your goals and dreams you will surely encounter adversity, it is during these times that it will be revealed if they are a wish or a want. I believe the difference between wishing and wanting is the removal of excuses. When difficulties come the people who wish it would happen make excuses, the people who want their dream, make something happen. The wall of adversity is not to keep you from your dream, it is there to find out how bad you want it.

Start today by examining your vision, passion, work ethic and results with brutal honesty. One of my favorite things I've heard Larry Winters say was, " LW 101, thou shalt not fooleth thyself." Too many times when people evaluate themselves, they sadly do so by their intentions. If you want results that will last and continue to blossom, that is going to require a serious and honest assesment of yourself.

There will be a price that must be paid for your dreams and goals, that price is not negotiable. Much like when buying a gallon of milk you must pay in advance, the difference is that the price of the milk is clearly marked and the price of your dream is not. You can be thirsty, you can love milk, you can see yourself drinking the milk, you can have a friend telling you how good it would be to have some milk and they believe you can bring home the milk..but until you reach into your pocket and pay for it, you ain't leaving with it.

Pay The Price
