“I didn't grow up with a silver spoon; I grew up with a plastic fork.”
“I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon; I grew up with a plastic fork.”This has always been a light hearted joke I’ve made but in reality it is a testament to my early life. I come from a divorced family with very little money. My one and only childhood vacation was not spent pool hopping in four star hotels, but instead sleeping in the front seat of our family car with my parents. I didn’t know what it meant to fly first class or that four for $1 pot pies were not “gourmet.” I did know, however, that there had to be more to life. Growing up poor has an effect on a person and over time you begin to think “enough is enough”. For me this happened early. Around 12 years old I began to notice people who had money. I was drawn not to their material possessions, but instead the attitude of freedom that was about them. These people were not bound in their decisions. Their success afforded them freedom of choice. This discovery has stayed with me throughout my life.. I started my first business at 17 and while it wasn’t a raging success, it did give me the taste of freedom I longed for. That first taste has stayed with me and has always been the reason I work so hard. I have found that if you only work toward material goals, you will never be as successful as you hope to be. Life has changed a lot since 17; I have since had many successful and not so successful businesses. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and sons. Through hard work and dedication I have also since learned what it feels like to fly first class, I have done my fair share of four star pool hopping and have tasted real gourmet food. (However, I still love those 4 for $1 pot pies.) My most recent endeavor was to write my first book, titled “God was Self Employed.”Inside “God was Self Employed” I discuss the success principles I have lived by since seventeen years old. What does it take to be successful? What is success really? Over the years they have developed into more in depth ideas but the foundation has always remained the same. Know what you want, why you want it, and what you are willing to give up to get it. Thank you for visiting my blog and be sure to keep an eye out for the e-release of my book “God was Self Employed” coming mid-April.
